Clinical Hypnotherapy

Our subconscious contains much of what drives our decisions such as our memories, emotions and imagination and is the force behind who we become and how we are. It also maintains our unconscious physiological processes such as breathing and digestion so acts to protect both our mental and physical well-being.

Our conscious is our logical state of awareness in the here and now which allows us to think, analyse and judge. It acts as a filter to ensure the most relevant and appropriate information is stored in the subconscious - however, the system is not fool-proof and the wrong information can be brought in when the conscious mind is:

distracted or confused, for example, by an emotional shock, and inappropriate and unwanted information gets absorbed;

not yet fully developed (in childhood) so filtering cannot take place, so everything gets absorbed including unimportant or distorted information;

subject to a negative pattern of behaviour being repeated over and over again. Such repetition convinces the conscious mind it is beneficial to you and so stores it in the subconscious as a habit

So how can I change direction?

Distraction of the conscious mind via either an emotional shock, e.g. a relative who smokes getting lung cancer may shock someone into giving up smoking or guided distraction with the use of hypnosis to replace the faulty information with new, positive behaviours.

Irrelevant or distorted information that was absorbed in childhood can be revealed using hypno-analysis and re-processed by the now fully developed adult mind.

Unwanted habits can be rapidly replaced with new positive behaviours using hypnosis.

Repetition of the new behaviour will naturally follow hypnosis and become stored as a new positive habit. (Conscious repetition can also over-ride a habit but takes unrealistic levels of will-power).
